You’re back? Okay, good. So, what did you think? Is Tom doing the right thing by posing for the paparazzi so that they can get their photos or should he shield Suri more from prying eyes?

Wrong wrong wrong. Paparazzi do NOT chase little kids like they do the adults, and no one seems to have a problem with keeping kids out of the spotlight. Think of how many celebrity kids you see rarely, if ever. If Tom wants to mug for the cameras for several hours, good for him…but don’t make little Suri do it too, especially when she’s far too little to even articulate a protest.
This really burns me.
That’s my $0.02, at any rate.
On one hand, Tom Cruise is undoubtedly an uber-creepy dude – no arguments here on that front. On the other hand, I feel for any celebrity parent who is hunted by photographers for pics of their kids. I watched the video and thought, “Hmm, this reminds me of the last family gathering where we had a dozen family members trying to get shots of my kids being cute and happy at the same time. They refused to cooperate, but that didn’t stop me from tryng to cajole them into compliance.” Yikes. does that put me in the same league as Cruise? *shudders*
That video makes me feel like throwing up. He’s using her as an accessory.
Let me start by saying that I think Tom Cruise has creeped me out more than once when I’ve seen him interviewed, jumping on couches, dissing depression drugs, etc. But I think in this case, and I could be wrong of course, that he was comforting, not cajoling Suri. It looked to me like he had to walk the paparazzi gauntlet with her, as he often must, and so he got down to her height and comforted her. Then he picked her up and continued to reassure her. Face it, that kid is going to be hounded by photographers no matter what. So Tom can either help her adjust to it or she can spend her life distressed by it. He showed her how to handle it with a bit of grace. Running for cover will only cause them to pursue her more vigorously. Like through tunnels in France. Tom knows how to throw the photographers a bone to quench their photo thirst. I don’t think he offered his daughter up as a sacrificial lamb; he helped his daughter walk past the paparazzi as she going to have to do throughout her life. If anything, he looked like a proud papa. Again, I could be wrong, and while I don’t know the guy, some of what I’ve seen of him in interviews and such like cause me to second guess his motives. But not this time.
Twofold answer: 1) publicity for him because he’s so pathetic he needs it and 2) as Cheri said, throw the photographers a bone and maybe they won’t be chased.

I chuckled when I read your poll… I always say “oh, hell to the No!” of course not around my little set of ears, but even when I’m really opposed or mad at something, just saying that makes me laugh!
As much as I have come to loathe Tom Cruise as of late, I have to say that I can actually understand why he’s doing this.
I mean, they’re going to get the picture no matter what, so why fight it? Fighting it just makes the loonie paps even more aggressive, so I guess he’s choosing the lesser of 2 evils here.
Then again, he could just keep her out of the public all together and then it wouldn’t really be an issue at all……
All I saw was a guy letting the creeps do what they do best. And they were probably left alone for the rest of the day.
If standing there letting them take pics was “Forcing” Suri to pose then what is we do to our kids when they don’t want there pics taken. This was blown out of proportion by my estimation.
I think he’s doing the right thing. If you go out and take 5 minutes to pose, you’re done and on your way to wherever you need to go without anyone following and hounding you. If you don’t pose, you spend your life being chased and hounded, or just hiding from the world. Which would YOU choose?
