Sartorial splendor

Sunday, March 16, 2008

I was not joking yesterday when I wrote about how Elegant will dress in 15 or 20 years.

Here’s how I know: The residents of Jenworld went out on the town last night — dinner and then a show (The Peking Acrobats — amazing!). Such an event calls for an appropriate wardrobe, natch.

This is what Elegant wore:

Yes, that is a pink faux fur, along with one of her more vivid dresses. I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried.

Elegant tried to wear these shoes, but alas they are now too small. Isn’t that just heartbreaking? Instead, Elegant dug out some old mary janes from her closet (powder blue with pink flowers) and wore those, but had to concede by the end of the night that they are too small too. Another heartbreak.

Luckily, I am one step ahead of her and have already ordered these:

Yes, they’re Crocs. Yes, some people think they are hideous, but we’re talking about a seven-year-old girl; Angelina Jolie’s earth-toned wardrobe is hideous to Elegant.

So Isla* Fisher’s wardrobe in “Confessions of a Shopaholic” is clearly the future my daughter is headed for.

* Did you know that Isla’s name is pronounced EYE-LA? I had no idea.

I absolutely love her wardrobe. Perfect for the occasion.

Small world. We saw the Peking Acrobats, on the night their DVD was filmed. There is a pan of the audience and we’re in it. Blink and you miss us!

Love her outfit, I really do.

How else would you pronounce Isla? I’m stumped but that may be because I am Scottish so never heard any other way?

I do like the name Isla but it makes me think of Isle of Wight or Isle of Man. It’s like Isabel. That makes me think Isabel on a bike?

Guider: I thought her name was pronounced Iz-la and so did some other people I asked. Maybe it’s an American thing?

    I thought her name was Eez-la…didn’t realize…

I ADORE your daughter’s sense of fashion. It’s such a great way for her to show her personality. I say…Bring.It.On!

    Heidi :)

Wow! I love that you see your daughter so clearly! I heart the Shopaholic books and cannot WAIT for the movie.
The soccer snaps were great, too, BTW. Did they win?

I can see how you could have fun shopping for her!

Oh to have the guts to wear a pink faux fur shawl :)
I love the way El dresses and can’t wait to see her teenage years :)
PS: Not a big fan of crocs, but those are cute.

She is going to be the gal that paints her Danskos. WHICH, I am preparing to do myself!

I love the kid’s style - totally unlike mine in real life but so like it in my dreams.

Crocs are a Boulder company. Every show store around here sells them and everybody has a pair or two. The Crocs you’ve chosen are adorable.

I had to look up the pronunciation of Isla too!

I love when kids have their own style.

And how did you think Isla was pronounced?

I love the crocs and have been looking at some mary jane styled ones myself! Glad it was a fun evening!

    Iz-la - LOL!

She’s going to grow up to have the most amazing style. You just wait, by the time shes 20, everyone will be wearing pink faux fur and mary jane crocs!

    THat is hilarious!

I am afraid that I am now more of an Angelina dresser than a pink dresser, but it seems to be working-no less than three of my husbands co-workers flirted mercilessly with me in SF.

Your Elegant reminds me of my Jenifer. She wore the brightest colors and the wildest prints. Take comfort, though. At 22, she has calmed down.

[...] (Or, if you’re Elegant, whenever you damn well feel like wearing a pink fur.) [...]
